Day 7: Fri 15 June 2012 Garstang to Carlisle
Whilst it may appear a bit boring on a road map, day 7 promises to be a great section with one of the highlights of the trip being the ride over Shap Pass. Covering approximately 80 miles, we will spend a lot of the day on the A6, but as the majority of the traffic runs on the M6 we should be OK.
Initially we will leave Garstang on the A6 to Lancaster, with a choice of some parallel B roads too. We will then take the A6 north out of Lancaster, then right on to the A6070, before changing to the A65 north of Farleton. We will then re-join the A6 through Kendel and then over Shap Fell. A fast run down to Penrith will follow, sticking to B roads and lanes to Dalston on the outskirts of Carlisle.
Todays route will be fairly fast and flat to Kendel, followed by a long 400m plus climb over Shap. However, after this it will be pretty much down hill all the way to Carlisle. We will stop overnight in the Dalston Hall Holiday Park, just outside of Carlisle
