Day 13: Thur 21 June 2012 Helmsdale to John O’Groats
Today is approx. 55 miles. A short sprint finish for the last day. However beware of Berriedale Braes, a steep drop and climb to test the nerve and legs. A lot of LEJOG sites make a fuss about it but from last years’ experience Paul says it didn’t seem that much of a deal (but he was going the other way). We follow the A9 then right on the A99 to the finish. The Berriedale Braes are the only steep climb., but these are STEEP and potentially strong winds Lots of empty spaces to choose from to stay overnight but we may start back towards civilisation for a beer or two or three or four………
Good luck for your last day in the saddle. I am sure that there will be some mixed emotions. It is a marvelous achievement that you will look back in years to come and tell tales of rain and wind.
I am sure that there will be more than a few beers sunk at cycle end.
Well done.
Thanks Archie, hard day into Helmsdale today very strong head wind for last 35 miles….. Last day tomorrow
Forget the Berriedale Braes; wait til you start out of Helmsdale – That’ll warm you up !!! And I was told its all flat after the Berridales – Strange definition of flat. Enjoy
Last day!! I am so proud of you! When you set your mind to it you can do ANYTHING!
Just think… soon all the drinks you want, your arse will feel better again and you will be in your own nice comfy and cozy tempur pedic bed!!
Enjoy the last of it and I hope the scenery is much nicer than yesterday was.
I bet your legs are WAY better than mine now, too!

Loads of people at the finish line I expect?. How about a “sprint finish”, if your weary old legs can summon that last ounce of adrenalin for those last “Victory photos”?
In anticipation – WELL DONE!, A FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT.

Just Rob at the finish and JOG looks like a building site!
Oh well!, Mick, I thought the RAF could have at least dropped some bods in by Chinook to welcome you there, with maybe a good old bar-b-cu and some champers maybe?.
A building site eh?. Well shiver me timbers, shipmate. Those poor sods during the “Highland clearances” could have done with some professional builders during their time up thereabouts.

WELL DONE MICK ON COMPLETING YOUR MAMMOTH CHALLENGE

Well done you. I am impressed and look forward to hearing all about it sometime over a Nepalese curry. Heather
